Custom Acne Treatment

Our acne treatment targets acne from multiple angles for the most effective treatment of all kinds of acne. We understand that acne can effect teens and adults and may have damaging consequences socially and, left untreated, can leave permanent damage in the form of acne scarring.

Our multi-factoral approach uses:

  1. LASERS are used to target the oil producing sebaceous glands. Heat from the laser shrinks the glad to help control oil production and purge comedones.
  2. LIGHT-BASED DEVICES including red and blue-light LED and intense pulsed light (IPL) are used to reduce redness and inflammation and to control acne bacteria.
  3. CHEMICAL PEELS increase cell turnover and promote thicker, healthier skin.
  4. A medical grade, easy-to use HOME ACNE KIT provides the essential acne fighting ingredients.
  5. Customized topical acne-fighting medications. Our acne treatment avoids the use Accutane®.

Acne Scar RepairFraxel Acne Scar Treatment Westside Laser & Light, Calgary, AB

Long after the acne is gone, acne can often leave behind lifelong scars that remind you of a time you would not mind forgetting.

Scarring caused by acne is much more common than doctors once believed. Most people will have acne scars that are mild. However, some will have scars that look significant even to others. The best approach is prevention and to treat acne right away as sometimes even mild acne can cause scarring. This can minimize the risk of permanent acne scars.

There are a number of different looking scars caused by acne. They can be classified as follows:

  • Ice pick scars – Deep pits, that are the most common and a classic sign of acne scarring.
  • Boxcar scars – Angular scars that usually occur on the temple and cheeks, and can be either superficial or deep. These are similar to chickenpox scars.
  • Rolling scars – Scars that give the skin a wave-like appearance.
  • Hypertrophic scars – Thickened, or keloid scars.

In order to get rid of, or minimize acne scarring, a combination of treatments provides the best results for many people.

A person’s acne needs to be under control before scars can be treated.

We have both ablative and non-ablative options for treating acne scars. Lifestyle and downtime can influence whether one option is chosen over another and varies from person to person.

We will discuss all options available to you in a personal and informative consultation.

Fraxel Restore Dual for Acne Scarring

Fractional non-ablative lasers such as Fraxel Restore Dual offer tremendous improvement for the appearance acne scars with a modest degree of social downtime.

A topical numbing cream is applied one hour prior to treatment. The laser treatment itself takes only 20-25 minutes and is accompanied with a gentle cooling air stream.

Thousands of micro columns of laser energy pass through the skin to promote collagen production and repair. Often more than one treatment is required for acne scarring.

Post-treatment, apply moisturizer, SPF 30 or greater and avoid excess sun exposure.

Pearl Fusion for Acne Scarring

This procedure combines the Pearl and Pearl Fractional resurfacing lasers. After a brief numbing period, the Pearl treatment is performed to remove the outermost portion of the epidermis. This takes about 10-15 minutes and is performed over the entire face.

Next, the Pearl Fractional laser is used everywhere there is scarring present. The fractional laser penetrates much deeper into the dermis causing increased collagen formation.

Together, these two lasers promote more a complete treatment and a better result.

There is a recovery period of 5-7 days social downtime where the patient may want to avoid social events. During this time there will be some initial weeping, redness, and swelling.

To promote faster healing and a better result, the Pearl Fusion treatment also includes a series of 4 Revive® LED Therapy sessions.

Laser Genesis for Acne Scarring

Laser Genesis treatments can reduce the appearance of acne scars through collagen stimulation caused by the heat generated during the procedure. Treatments are comfortable and require no anesthesia. Using an advanced 1064nm Nd:YAG laser, the layer between your dermis and epidermis receives thousands of tiny pulses of laser light. The body responds to this stimulus with an increased production of collagen in that area. Results should be noticeable after 3 or 4 treatments but a series of 6 or more treatments is often required. Treatments can be spaced 2-4 weeks apart for optimal results.

This option has no-downtime associated with the treatment – patient’s can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Chemical Peels for Acne Scarring

Chemical peels are also an option for acne scars and we have a number of customizeable options to choose from.
