Pearl Laser Treatment

Pearl® Laser Treatment

For sun damage, wrinkles and acne scars and skin rejuvenation at its finest.

New Pearl-like skin in just a few days.

Sound too good to be true? The Pearl laser treatment revolutionizes the treatment of skin texture, fine lines and sun damage. For deeper imperfections including moderate to deep wrinkles and acne scars, Pearl Fractional is performed following the Pearl in the same appointment and only on targeted areas.

The Pearl treatment treats the top layer of the skin to remove sun damage, texture and fine lines. The layer just below the epidermis of the skin receives heat to stimulate collagen growth and a mild skin tightening effect.

Pearl Fractional uses the same laser technology but treats just a fraction of the area at one time. By treating just a fraction of the skin, the laser energy can be delivered much deeper into the dermis to initiate repair at those deeper levels with much less risk and downtime than non-fractional laser treatments.

Pearl is skin rejuvenation at its finest.

The Pearl Procedure

The external layer of our skin is under a constant barrage of elements. Wind, sun, grime, pollution, it all contributes towards an uneven surface of dead skin. While your skin does renew itself every ten to fourteen days, age, dietary habits and improper care can hinder cellular regeneration and growth.

Through the use of Cutera’s Pearl laser treatment skin resurfacing system we comfortably remove that layer of rough, uneven skin to reveal the layer of smooth, fresh skin underneath.

Pearl is a unique wavelength exclusive to Cutera lasers. What makes Pearl special is that it offers many of the benefits associated with CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser resurfacing without the risks and downtime.

With our ablative laser technology we can reveal the fresh, appealing skin that is just under the surface of your rough, uneven surfaces.

A Cutera Pearl laser treatment at our SW Calgary clinic is fast and comfortable. We use a topical anaethetic prior to treatment and an advanced air-cooling system during treatment for added comfort. With Pearl, there is a modest degree of social downtime. Depending on the level of treatment you receive, you may expect between 3-5 days of social downtime typically. This means that you will be red with minor swelling and should avoid sun exposure. A post-treatment care product is applied to protect your new, baby-fresh skin while it is healing.

What is “social” downtime?

Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With “social” downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities. However, you may not wish to attend important social events because your face will appear pink/red for 3-5 days.

Post-Treatment Progression

How does a Pearl treatment feel?

The Pearl treatment feels like a series of brief pinches. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing pain, most patients report the treatment feeling like a 2 or 3. Some patients find the treatment excrutiating, however. We apply a special topical numbing cream prior to treatment which is usually very effective for most patients. In addition, we use a high-speed air chiller which allows for an extremely comfortable treatment. We will discuss pain-management strategies with you during a free consultation to provide additional options or information about the experience.

When will I see results?

How soon can I wear make-up after a Pearl treatment

Results are noticeable by day 3 or 4 when the superficial tissue has peeled off, revealing fresh, bright, healthy skin underneath. Make-up may be applied at this time.

How many treatments are recommended?

Some patients may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results. Other patients may need only one treatment.

Can Pearl be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Yes, patients may choose to have a Pearl treatment combined with other procedures such as Exilis Ultra, LimeLight, Genesis as well as fillers or Botox. When considering combination therapies, be sure to discuss with your practitioner as sequencing the order of procedures is important.

How does Pearl compare to other laser treatments?

Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines, uneven texture and discoloration without would care and the lengthy downtime with certain Erbium and CO2 laser procedures.

Compared to today’s fractionated technologies, Pearl’s results are more superficial. For deeper issues like wrinkles and acne scars, fractional laser may be recommended in conjunction with the Pearl. For darker skin types, we recommend Fraxel or a non-laser option of micro-needling for your safety.

Who is a candidate for a Pearl treatment?

Patients with light to medium skin tones and mild to moderate sun damage are the ideal candidates.

How much is a Pearl treatment?

Full-face Pearl treatments are $1350. Additional areas can be added at same time including neck, chest and hands for a minor additional fee. Ask for details.

The Pearl Fractional Procedure

The Pearl treatment works on the outer layers of your skin. For deeper imperfections like moderate to deep wrinkles and acne scars, the energy must be delivered to the depth of those “injuries”.

In order to achieve that goal without adding significant risk or downtime, fractionating the laser beam allows us to treat only a fraction of the skin at one time. In so doing, we can safely deliver the energy deep into the dermis to achieve those desired outcomes.

Wrinkles and acne scars are depressions in the skin and through the science of heat, we can stimulate collagen production at those deeper levels. This causes a thickening of the dermis and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and acne scars.

Depending on the depth and severity, we can tailor treatment to promote the most effective results and overall experience.

What is “social” downtime?

Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With “social” downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities. However, you may not wish to attend important social events because your face will appear pink/red for 5-10 days for Pearl Fractional. The downtime with Pearl-only is less and peeling can be expected around day 3-4.

How does a Pearl Fractional treatment feel?

The Pearl Fractional treatment is more painful than the Pearl. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing pain, most patients report the treatment feeling like a 5 or 6. Some patients find the treatment excruciating, however. We apply a special topical numbing cream prior to treatment which is usually very effective for most patients. In addition, we use a high-speed air chiller which allows for an extremely comfortable treatment. We will discuss pain-management strategies with you during a free consultation to provide additional options or information about the experience. For Pearl Fractional, you may consider oral medication and possibly arrange for transportation home after the treatment.

Initially, you can expect to be very swollen for 1-2 weeks following treatment. Results are noticeable after 6-12 weeks when collagen has been produced.
